    BATTLE GROUND — The Blue stars won the first game, and the Red stars took the second game. There is, however, some debate as to who won the sumo wrestling match in the pitching circle Thursday after the Southwest Washington All-Star Softball Senior Showcase.
    “You better not say I lost,� Skyview’s Lauren Bukovi said of her “battle� with Evergreen’s Staci Doucette.
    Back to that a little later.

    Because before the wrestling, there was fun and games involving softball.
    Lacey Hoffman of Toutle Lake hit a two-run home run in the final inning of the second game, giving the Red stars a 7-5 victory. In the first game, Ariel Fulkerson of Battle Ground, playing on her home field, had a two-run single in the first inning of a 4-0 win for the Blue stars. In between games, Doucette won the home run derby.
    Official statistics were not kept, but there were hundreds of smiles.
    “It’s amazing. Playing with all these girls was so much fun,� Fulkerson said. “It’s sad that it’s our last year all together.�

    Fulkerson did not mind splitting the victories between the teams, acknowledging that the event wasn’t about who won, who lost.
    “It’s just to have fun, for everybody to play,� she said. “I was playing third base. I haven’t played third base for four years.�
    Not everybody shared in her let-everybody-win attitude.
    Bukovi and Doucette act like best friends — best friends who want to beat each other bad.
    Doucette hit two homers late in the derby to take the crown, so Bukovi went to work in the second game, trying to get into Doucette’s head.
    “Baby hitter. Infield in,� Bukovi heckled as Doucette came to the plate.
    “I’ll meet you in the parking lot,� Doucette replied, from the batter’s box.
    Turns out, they didn’t wait for the parking lot.
