Rays Team Report Sep 23, 2008

Everything about left-hander David Price has been impressive.

The first pick in the 2007 draft began his pro career at Class A in late May, worked his way through Class AA and Class AAA, made his big-league debut on Sept. 14 and his first start on Monday.

Price displayed a fastball consistently in the 93-94 mph range and an effective slider. He retired the first five Orioles and didn't allow a hit until the fifth, though he ran into a bit of trouble there.

Following an inning-opening error by Evan Longoria, Price gave up a couple of singles, walked No. 9 hitter Juan Castro with the bases loaded to force in a run, then allowed a sac fly that tied the score.

"I thought David was very good," manager Joe Maddon
